I was gifted my first fly rod and learning to cast has been really fun. It’s a South Bend 9’ 5/6wt 2 piece. Came with 4x leader/tippet and a small assortment of size 12 flies. I just grabbed the smallest one tied it on and started casting with no bite. I primarily fish bass but there’s also a bunch of bluegill. What are some flies and other essentials I should pick up for pond fishing? Also in the kit were some small metal pins with barbs on the shaft, what are they used for?
