I'm think I'm seriously learning a lesson here, though. Even with excess seeds, carefully and meticulously planted with care, they struggle to come out. I'm about *this* close to just taking the spampill and just simply throwing entire packets on the ground without regard or care for where the land.
I shit you not, the (water)melon and pumpkin/squash seeds that were simply thrown out into the field to be disposed of have all sprouted and as of this morning, a cluster of them have grown several true leaves and look extremely vigorous and healthy. No care, no attention, all neglect, and yet they seem to thrive, versus mine which come out slowly and timidly.
Why do plants do this? It's driving me fucking insane.
