Speaking of traditional knives I picked up this old US-made Schrade at an antique store the other day. Well-worn and has clearly been sharpened a billion times but it was 15 bucks and I thought the patina was cool so I figured I'd rescue it. Just oiled and sharpened it and those old carbon steel blades took a really nice edge, slices better than a lot of modern supersteel knives I've owned, though it's anybody's guess how long it'll hold that edge.
I really want to get a nice modern production traditional slipjoint but it's tough, GEC seems like the best bet but actually getting one is a pain in the ass and getting the exact one you want seems to be impossible.
