I did some walking around barefoot this weekend. I walked up a pretty high ski slope, which was mostly sandy but also had rocks and dry weeds, which are hard on the feet. The rest of the walk was harder because there was less sand and more dry, prickly weeds. I only ended up with a few holes in my feet, so I am well on my way to Hobbit-mode.
I have been walking around barefoot outside for most of my life, so I think I do have some sort minor tolerance. Wearing socks and shoes/boots all the time during the winter is what sets us back up in colder climates.
