>>1220127>>1220090I'm gonna be showing someone the ropes of trout fly fishing this spring. I have an old 5wt I don't really use, but the line and reel is kinda shot. Would I damage the rod if I put 8wt line on it? I figure heavier line will be easier to cast and learn on for them and a 5wt will let them experience some kind of fight and fun.
My 3wt is my main trout rod but it was broken so I sent it in to get fixed. November was very mild and warm and I was able to catch trout on the fly then which is unusual, and I was going to go catch steelhead with my 8 wt but all the creeks were blown out so I hit up a couple smaller stocked creeks and ponds. It's so depressing to haul in little pic related fish on an 8wt rod .
