If you like the smell of just plain old tobacco, start out with some of the classic American Burley blends-Carter Hall, Prince Albert, or Sir Walter Raleigh. They are available everywhere, very forgiving of beginner mistakes, don't bite your tongue and stay lit better than Virginia tobacco-based blends do. Best of all, they're inexpensive to get started-a pouch is $5 or less. Of the three I like Carter Hall best; your taste may be different.
