>>1147912i'm imagining you're talking about going out when the lakes are just barely frozen over? like, there are patches of open water and patches of thin ice? if so probably what i would do is buy a cheap wal-mart canoe paddle, and a piece of thin bar stock from lowes, take both home, rip the handle portion of the canoe paddle with a saw that has a simmilar curf as the thickness of the metal, then fit the metal in there temporarrily, drill two holes for pins through both the metal and the wood, and draw an outline of the paddle handle on to the metal. sharpie in jagged teeth like in a cartoon saw that will be sharp enough to dig in to ice but not sharp enough to hurt a gloved hand, cut them out, then epoxy the mess in to the handle of the canoe paddle so that i can paddle in the water, and slide across the top of ice that is a little too thick to break through. it is also very probable that i am being autistic/completely misunderstanding you. just go fishing and find out what your needs are, then invent something to meet those needs.
