That said, the San Isabel National Forest down by the Spanish Peaks is pretty nice when things start to green up in the spring and summer.
Also, you should be really goddamn careful if you go pretty much anywhere off-trail in the mountains from April 12 to May 25; that's when the spring turkey season is and turkey season is far and away the most dangerous, accident-prone hunting season there is. I mean, the chances of something happening are still virtually negligible but all it takes is a dumbass wearing red, white and/or blue clothing and trying to call a turkey in for shits and giggles to end up with a shoulder full of #4 as part of an honest mistake.
