I'm trying to get a compost heap going and I don't have nearly the amount of green materials necessary to make it happen. This isn't a baby kitchen scraps bin, I want a humongous pile that will get hot and stay insulated in a Zone 3 winter. Brown/carbon materials are in no shortage, but I can't just pile up wood chips and expect to have dirt in the spring. I've been out collecting weeds at a snail's pace and I'll need about a year's worth of chicken shit + my own shit to get the ratio right (to say nothing of all the weeds I'm just feeding to the chickens anyway).
Anyone know any hacks to fill out this heap? I'm hoping to let the pile decompose for 6 months at least.
