To address your point, most rural areas in the Eastern U.S. are within 1-2 hours of major and mid-sized cities and therefore aren't immune to sprawl especially as more people start working remotely.
So what turned Winchester into a sprawly, high-traffic clusterfuck of a town might eventually affect other rural communities like my own
