Don't get me wrong, the last time it was wild was the short period between Operation Vistula in '47 and resettling the region from late 50s onward and definitely no longer being wild from 70s onward, but as long as you avoid the main trails and the main tourist magnets, it is still the wildest part of Poland and probably the only only one where you should carry an animal pepper spay.
Also, the big problem is what people call Bieszczady and where Bieszczady really are, kind of how idiots go to Zakopane and think they are in Tatry. Most morons call all the mountains and hill-land that's east from Krosno and south from Przemyśl "Bieszczady". Actual Bieszczady don't even start until you at least get past Lesko and to be sure, you should be south of Solina reservoir and east from Komańcza.
