The thing with the tracker (and other large knives in general) is that while they can be used in lieu of a hatchet, for chopping and batoning etc. That "extra functionality" is rarely used, compared to the more basic functions.
As a result - as people get more experience, they tend to move away from larger knives, and go for smaller ones - current bushcraft standard seems to be ~4.5'' blade, 1/8'' thick.
As for the tracker - it is certainly one of the most, if not THE most controversial knife around - some people love it, some people hate it with a passion. Bottom line is - it's quite a functional tool, but it does take a while to figure out. Once you do, you can do pretty much anything with it, but it's a little gimmicky.
An interesting tidbit (see picture) is that the Dave Beck version made it on Alone.
