>>2584029The flip-side happens too. It is a "cool job" that's not a typical office-bitch or construction-worker career. Some people are interested in what this "thing" is at the top of the mountain. "Is this a weather station?" They'll stop and chat, if I'm feeling friendly i'll let them peek in and look at the blinkenlights.
Did a job for an amusement park. Needed some hands to haul a bunch of equipment up a few flights of stairs since the park wasn't open yet. A bunch of the summer-hire kids from the park were recruited to help us out. One kid was really curious, asked a ton of questions but was respectful of our time. As we were packing up, we needed to carry a couple spools of leftover wire down to the trucks. "Hey, I'll make this easy for ya...", grabbed my cowtail and strung it through the spools, quick joiner knot to make a loop, "Throw this over your shoulder."
He cracked a smile, comments "Solid knot work dude, thanks" I look around, see we've got some time before things are moving... "Want to learn how to tie that one?" "Hell yeah!"
Pulled the knot apart, started with a basic barrel knot, then the double fishermans bend I originally tied.
Pretty sure he went home and googled the fuck out of "rope access jobs", "tower climber jobs", "radio technician jobs".
