Dunno how it is in Australia but for example I can get 450gr canisters from the hardware store at almost half the price of "hiking" gas canisters of a similar capacity.
So I got a small canister and refill it. The canisters can be safely refilled 10-15 times. Just have to be careful to not overfill them (use a kitchen scale to weight them full vs the empty).
Also the little canisters with the push valve (picrel) are even cheaper (usually).
Either get a tripod adapter that connects directly to the stove (should cost maybe $5 for a plastic one on ebay or AliExpress) or use them to refill the canister (needs yet another adapter).
