I carry around a recorder sometimes. It's an alto so it's a bit of a bigger, more deep sounding, than the ones you may know or played in school.
Strangely has a native american vibe to it. Fun to play and I should learn some actual melodies on it.
Guitar is just too bulky to bring on an actual hike. Unless Im going out just to play. Or if someone else is tagging along and they can carry other stuff for a day hike.
Also hard to play guitar now that it's getting colder. I guess a campfire fixes that but again if im bringing guitar it's just for a short hike.
