>>229454Of the three times I watched Man vs. Wild, I saw him doing some very obviously unsafe things on every occasion.
>Situation: omg, stranded on a glacier (read: a mountain with a glacier on top, he needs to get off the mountain safely, and then find civilization)>What Bear Grylls did: Let's go down into this cave and try to travel UNDER the fucking glacier!!!-Reality: A cave going underneath a glacier is the single most dangerous place you could be - it's melting ice, and as such, could collapse on you spontaneously at any moment.
-What normal people would do: If someone were stuck on the top of a mountain, it's unlikely that they'd be unable to follow down the route that they used to climb the mountain in the first place.
>Situation: omg, stranded in the mountains (read: a high altitude forest where temperatures fluctuate between daytime highs in the 60s-70s, and nighttime lows in the 40s-50s in the summer). >What Bear Grylls did: Let's take two hours cutting down trees and building a raft, and then float down this river for a couple miles!!-Reality: While it can be slow-going to travel alongside a river in the mountains without a trail, building a raft used up a lot of his energy needlessly, and then getting wet essentially ruined his chances of keeping warm through that night. There are also a lot of waterfalls in the mountains, and rafting any random mountain stream can be very dangerous.
-What normal people would do: Just hike alongside the stream or over land.
>Situation: omg, so thirsty in this rainforest>What Bear Grylls did: Oh, look, here's some water that appears to be flowing. Let's drink up!-Reality: While there is a general rule that cool, flowing water is safer to drink than warm, stagnant water, that kind of goes out the window in the rainforest, where everything is warm, and every water should be considered suspect.
-What normal people would do: Just boil the water.
