Most of my cabins, I've built using subsidies (God bless green-socialists handing money to landed gentry and their hobbies (woods and cabins as "nature conservation" and hunting and fishing as "wildlife protection") instead of spending it paupers).
And most of the reading you don't really have to do. If you're a landowner you can become a member of the land/manor owners union. They've got easy leaflets, seminars and even help on the how-to of all the basic things (like how to get your tracts in a land-trust so that you'll avoid the hefty manor-tax).
