i just got a ferro road from aliexpress (not worth linking, it's the same as literally every rod on there) and i should have listened. when you combine the cheap rod with my poor skills, i can't get sparks consistently enough to start a fire hehe. i sanded and filed the scraper, removing the black paint which was on it and creating a nice square taper, but still pretty much useless. if i use the saw on my victorinox or back of my kabar it's much better, but still not consistent and the rod is getting chewed up, i'll have to file it down smooth, but only if i keep "using" it.
i've used decent rods in the past belonging to other people and never failed as spectacularly as i am now. my experience is definitely lacking, but hey that's why i bought my own rod to practice :3
so, my stupid question, has anyone got a good and consistent technique for using these cheap rods, or am i better off spending more money? thanks!
