Something to note about their explosion in settlements is that its bring driven partially by many Amish getting priced out of their original towns now. It doesn't look like it but a decent Amish farm in Eastern Pennsylvania can be >$5,000,000 easily, there's just not enough to go around anymore. So while it seems like right now the Amish are thriving, I think we're going to see a die off of Amish communities in their traditional homeland in the next few decades as young Amish families are incapable of staying in Lancaster & other places.
