>>1607621Great lakes, I've got an 8 wt and I dont think I really want to do much more with a fly rod then that because I have done my share of streamer swinging and I've never really had much luck with it aside from an Atlantic salmon that I caught and later learned they're incredibly rare.
My big decision is to either get a 10'6" spinning rod with a spinning reel, learn how to float fish right, and later in life when I start making money finally get a centerpin, or just cut my teeth with the pin now and always have that. My problem isnt so much the money I can afford it, it's just that I'm worried about the learning curve. I'm in medifag school and the bulk of the steelhead season I'm gonna be incredibly busy and fish maybe twice a month for a few hours. I dont want those few hours to be spent dealing with line twist and backlash and not catching fish. I'd be fine with learning it any other time but I'm in a unique situation where practice isnt realistic .
