There is an empty strip of land nearby. The ground is packed, a bit rocky, and dry (and it almost never rains), hardiness zone 9. There are some grasses and very shrubs there, so they get water somehow. Lots of sun, though a bit of it is shaded.
Are there any useful plants I can plant there and forget about? No deep digging because there's a gas pipeline there.
