>>371120>>371262That guy summed it up pretty well. There is a lot of deep seated hatred between a handful of entitled people, and every trail user is suffering for it. Check this article from a few years ago out-
http://www.marinij.com/marin/ci_5449341Government employees strung neck level barbed wire across the trail. This trail wasn't even a hiking trail, it was built in open space by mountain bikers. There's still a lot of trail sabotage going on out in San Geronimo. The most ridiculous thing that's happened is the few legal non-fireroads they've built. They cost $500k-1mil for 5 miles of doubletrack due to corrupt construction companies and "environmental impact surveys", they have to be devoid of rocks and roots, 2 feet wall in all places, and grades no steeper than 10% or so, so they turn in to speedways of death, where the rooty/rocky singletrack where you can't really go faster than 10mph descending remains illegal. 3 people have been helicoptered from trails in the last year from serious cycling crashes, 2 on those legally built doubletracks, one on a fireroad.
Now they are trying to build a bike park with legal, technical singletrack but despite being funded easily through huge donations anti-MTBers have completely buried it in red tape and stopped construction. Why? They think having more legal trails will bring more people to the area that will then go to poach trails.
Despite all this Marin is still mountain biking paradise, just have to pay the price if you get caught. Almost everyone on the trails is friendly to MTBers, even when they are riding illegally, the whole problem resides in city hall and the minds of a few bitter, entitled people that don't want anyone to have fun.
