Honestly in that price range, you can get some pretty nice combos too. Like if you go to Bass Pro and they have any Johnny Morris combos around $150, those are quite nice for the money. IMO, if you find a combo you like around that price range, you will probably get the quality of a $200 rod + reel for $140-$160 in the combo. I’m sure any Abu or Lew’s spinning combo you get around that price will be straight too. I got one of the Lew’s Mach baitcaster combos a few years back from Dick’s with some Xmas sale and it was real solid for the money. Pic related, it is far nicer than the Abu Silver Max and Ugly Stik setup I paid for separately for nearly the same money.
