Go to Portland, OR. In before “liberals.” You’re not there for a political debate.
Logistically it’s an easier trip than Mt. Rainier. Mt. Hood is within eyeshot of Portland. Pic is probably from Pittock Mansion, a historic house overlooking the valley in which the city sits. It gives a good view of the scale of the mountain, which is 11,000’ at its summit, with 500’ tall buildings in the foreground.
You can “climb”to the summit but you’ll need crampons, and an ice axe is recommended. There are guided trips but it’s pricey. You can drive to Timberline Lodge at about 7,500’, which gives a great idea of the scope of a big ass mountain.
If you’re dead set on climbing/hiking to the top, Mt. St. Helens for the same reason; there’s an observatory near by specifically so you can see the size of the mountain. But it’s a lot easier than most mountains, and again, you can easily rent a car and drive there (not to the summit, lol).
