Put the male end on the bladder side, that way you can push the valve in to bleed out the air.
O-ring seal, doesn't leak when it's connected. Pretty nice, industrial-strength n' shit so they can take some abuse. Believe they're the 1/4" PLC-series fittings.
The hoses are cheap, I buy a couple of those and run them through my packs, then put the CPC fitting on it.
