Your pic is my old back yard. I miss West Marin. Central Marin has gone to hell, too many people. I remember digging clams around Bolinas in 1961 when I was about 3 years old. This is one place that hasn't changed much since then. I left 20 years ago after growing up there. I now live 750 miles away where there are legal MTB trails (Pt. Reyes used to be all legal before 1984). We used to poach Matt Davis and other trails on mountain bikes, but I got tired of the sneaking around factor. Sometimes I go back, but go straight to the coast from Petaluma.
On the subject of phones and hiking, I take my iPhone 4S, as it has the camera and the maps ( iHikeGPS app ). Too bad the battery doesn't last long. Probably need a solar panel next ... As an oldfag I understand the need to leave the technology at home, but it sure is tempting. Pic is a screen shot of iHike I found in the web.
