>>2515083I’m still very early in the process anon, but I’m basically trying to revive my grandfathers lands, where my family has been for over 100 years. So there’s very much a feeling of being engrained with the land, and wanting to make the best of what I have in order to benefit me, my animals and my family.
We have about 5 acres right beside the house. 2 acres are right up beside the house, we usually just let our horse chill there, but we have partitioned it before to plant sweet potatoes, beans etc with great success due to the sunlight. The rest of the acreage lies below, most of it again is just mostly flat (with some slopes) pasture for the horse/cows, with a random lemon tree in the middle lol.
There is a part (picrel) that lies in a “grota” we call it in Portugal, that is home to about 4 orange trees, a bunch of other fruit trees of the Goyave family, and some wild yams. I’m personally trying to improve things first by cleaning up the entire area. There’s a bunch of weeds, invasive trees, and just general overgrowth that has appeared as the product of neglect. Once that is rectified, I will try to terrace and till some of the parts of the sloped portion. The flat part below will once again see banana trees, as had once been the case. We had to remove them since they are very laborious and need someone there year round to tend to it.
Great thing about where I am is that it’s December 27 and it’s 17 and sunny out, so a perfect time to do all this stuff before planting season, which for my area is February. I have a bunch of other ideas for chickens, pigs and other animals that I may elaborate on later!
