Before my adult life I spent a lot of time in the woods, because, well, my home was surrounded by it. Then last year (age 28) I truly got into /out/ings, so I bought a shitton of gear from aliexpress (am poor, but only got stuff that doesn't shit out on you, egg rest mattresses are excellent) and in May went out for a hike with a friend.
>planned 10km around a lake, 2-3 hours
>then back to camp for beer and shaslik
>did not look at any map of the area except google maps
>started off good, high ground, pine forest, easy walking
>30 minutes later it gets damper and damper as we get closer to water line
>My old army boots that have whitstood 10 winters suddenly start leaking, soles loose 6-8cm on both feet
>Decide to trek on, because it couldn't get worse, right
>4 hours later we are almost halfway there, had to get a lot of distance from the lake as the water was too deep, bush too thick and so on
>springtime ahoy, every step we take is knee deep in water, and mysteriously moose and deer shit is everywhere, so we cannot help but get soggy shit water in our boots
>not a mound of dry ground in hours, all swamp
>seriously consider calling in a chopper to get us out after 8 hours, but don't pussy out
>finally arrive at basecamp 11 hours and 35km later
>there is a notice board with area map
>literally swamp around the lake
>got pitted keratolysis from that ordeal
At least there were no bugs, May was cold here.
