Yeah, my sleeping bad is milsurp - if not chink made, but genuine ex-Dutch army - but at £45 it was the cheapest season 4 sleeping bag I could get. Yeah, my boots are old and scuffed, if still highly polished, my bag is dirty as hell, from over a decades use and my knives are just cheap mora ones I was given by my troop leader on leaving scouts.
And for that reason, I love my gear all the more. It all has character. I don't get to buy every item I need all at once, but I have to save and really invest if I need new kit. Some of my kit is needlessly heavy and other bits hopelessly old. It is a real mismash, with every thing I have being treasured, especially as half of it is borrowed off of different friends and family members. But it's mine. Bad or not, it's my constant companion when I want to escape the city and go innawoods. I'm just fine with that.
