Generally when it comes to fly rods people usually buy odd or even weights. So if you had a 4 the next rod purchase would be a 6. For the fishing I do I have an 8 wt and a 10 wt with the 9 wt being the equivalent of a 5 wt for trout fishing.
The clearwater is a good starter set up. If you have a lot of casting room a 9' 5 wt is the best place to start for trout fishing. If you don't have a lot of casting room you will get frustrated with a 9' rod and you may want something a little shorter.
