I plan to put the trap a few blocks down where the water is deeper so the trap can be completely submerged and maybe it won’t be visible so there are less chances some curious kids will pick it up to see what it is. I don’t think there are big fishes there, maybe a frog could get in but it would end up drowning inside and become more bait. I plan to make a more compact version of this

I plan to make it with plastic instead of metal, the home improvement store have some nice stiff plastic ones that should be strong enough and lighter. This one have a nice idea of making a kind of valve that let them enter but not exit. I wanted to make this other one since it would be easier and cheaper
