Normally I carry my Zebralight SC62w for normal EDC. I find compact 1x18650 lights to be a good size for pocket carry, it’s firefly setting is low enough for not ruining your night eyes, a the 1,000lm burst is more than enough for emergency use. Or temporarily lighting an area for people.
But I have a 4,000lm Nitcore TM26 that I either keep in my car or in my bag while /out. It’s got over 1000 hours of battery life at 9lm and works great as a lantern. And at 4,000lm it can be used for lighting a large area, spotting around 400 yards, helping navigate on the water at night, and signaling. But of course it’s pretty heavy.
I don’t think there is one best light, it depends on what you plan on using it for. I would say all around general light, would be a mid sized slim 1x18650 light. I would say 18650 or 14500 for sure though, LIon has its long term advantage.
