The thing is, if you believe you are in your ''natural state'' in the woods, you eventually have to become a beast in order to survive.
This means eating raw meat and building an immune system ten times stronger than a civilization-man. It's possible but after a few years you won't even remember your old self as the parasites ate a large portion of your brain. You'll have become like a feral beast like all other feral beasts because that's what nature requires
Now going down this far the hole wouldn't be needed if you have a tribe, you would still become feral and have some wild guts but not as much as such.
The real redpill here is a compromise between civilization and the wild, namely being a medieval christian peasant farmer, without the feudalist duties tied into it of course. The mennonite/amish have it at the right end. Plus you will actually have decent food
