If you go from seed, start them on a radiator at 30°C in late January/early February. Once germinated, transfer to a south-facing window in a room that only gets warm when the sun is out, and add an alu-foil coated press board to increase light input (it costs like €2 total). As soon as there are no more frosts to be expected (late March-late April, follow the forecasts), you can plant them in ground in a full sun spot, and they'll produce like crazy. Keeping them potted will severely reduce yield from my experience, contrary to common expectation they love my heavy garden clay soil. Pic is my single tabasco plant in early September, so far it has produced maybe ~600g of fresh fruit, despite being a notorious late bloomer. Expecting another 100-200g before frost sets in
