Pic related is part of the plans for what I'm building- it's into a slight hill, so I'm digging out a level spot and making a foundation from cinderblocks and packed sand/gravel. Get yourself a mattock if you want to do any amount of digging, and you'll want an actual level to make sure the string you lay out is level.
