as far as carabiners to pair with the jul, looking at the mechanism it looks like something shaped like pioc related might be a bit more forgiving, since it doesn't have a narrow end to get sucked up in the brake assist. but that's purely theoretical on my end. best bet is hold it in your hand with a rope through it and see how it feeds with different shaped biners.
