>>1214361This is how I do mine, except I have a 12 ft kayak and an 8 ft bed on my truck. I have a chain that's wrapped around my truck's frame and comes up through the bed, then and I attach the chain to the kayak with a carabiner. Then I tie a little piece of rope to the hole near the end of the bed and to the kayak handle so it doesn't bang around while im driving. Ratchets are overkill and you can easily warp your yak by ratcheting too hard. I just use the straps with clips and knots.
