If you pick out shitty weeds like dandelions, geraniums, chickweed and knotweed before they can go to seed (that's most of the ones giving issues here, everything else would probably grow too tall before flowering stage so it doesn't survive the mowing in the first place), then you don't have to do it often and don't need any herbicides
I'm also throwing nitrogen-rich fertiliser once in March and once in June, then potassium in October (so it's strengthened in winter), sets me back less than €20 per year (plus I'm composting the cut grass and re-use that in the crop area)
Only thing I allow to grow are crocusses, because they grow in late winter before the lawn is first mowed
