Bought one for $50 2 years ago and kept count on how many lure's I have saved with it since, both mine, fishing buddies as well as the odd random lost lure it has also dragged up, to date this thing has "saved" nearly $400 worth of otherwise unsaveable lures. They are cumbersome to carry around and pack in a small car but in the end it pays for itself. As for the metal lure retriever you posted, aren't those things generally useless on land? Seems like even with strong ass rope they would still get caught in deep snags and on the undercut of banks. I want one for my boat as the telescopic ones can only reach so far though.

I was the same, lost around $100 of lures before I got one of these. Fishing boat and land, I have counted to cost of lures I have got back with the help of this, so far it has "saved" me around $370 of mine and others lures that we would have otherwise lost. For only $50 it's a solid investment.

Make sure to get one that expands to around 14ft for deep river fishing.
