Look past the us v them conditioning. Racism v multiculturalism is another means of isolation, as fake as race itself.
Also handmade gear is neat. My girlfriend sews shirts of linen and wool, and I knit, carve, and would like to begin leatherwork. Have a TT modular too. I don't know shit about civilian gear, but it seems stout enough, has molle inside and out, and can be reconfigured depending upon the planned trip.
