Other people merely lay it on the ground, allowing grass to grow through. One thing I find striking is people's use of chicken wire for skirting material. I advise against it because of how readily it rusts and how thin it is. Nearly all the chicken wire I've used lasted a maximum of 3 years in/on the ground. Welded wire fencing of thick gauge lasts around 20 years, but costs a bit more up front. Replacing skirting every few years isn't a job to take lightly.
>>1284297That is sorta normal. All my plants that use male and female flowers only had male flowers until 3 days when the crooknecks started producing female flowers. The best thing you can do is chop off the loners and eat them.
>>1284323From the plant's perspective it can see sky right? How much of the sky can it see? The more the better. That ambient light being bounced around by the atmosphere really helps out. If everything is painted white on the porch/under roof that will help even more. If you build a box, to hang on both sides of the railing, you should have enough light to grow quite a bit of stuff regardless of cultivar.
