Honestly, for a local first aid kit, where you can have your injured person at a hospital in under 2 hours, tourniquets are completely valid options, there's even fairly debatable methods of preserving a limb past 2 hours via loosening and re-tightening but I haven't fully read the research. And if you're in the backcountry far from civilization, if it's a tourniquet worthy wound they'd be dead anyways, why not buy them some extra time at the cost of a limb.
