I used a stove like that for winter camping when there was snow everywhere a couple times, worked well enough but doesn't generate tons of heat. I used little Camp Heat fuel thingos though, was able to get simple dishes cooked up pretty well but takes a long time to get a boil going.
If it's sub freezing the gel works better than gas stoves but in all other applications gas is a lot hotter. I've never used the tablets.
The Coghlan's Camp Heat is better than most sterno fuels because it's diethylene glycol which burns hotter than ethylene glycol, which the Sterno brand is.
