How close together can tomato plants grow?
These plants grew from a chunk of a store-bought tomato that I planted, so I'm pretty sure they're three individual plants from three different seeds.
I didn't intend for the pot to sprout three plants, but I figured I'd just keep whichever one grew biggest and decapitate the others. Turned out two of them grew at pretty much the same rate.
Can I just leave them like this, assuming I put them in a sufficiently large pot? I doubt I'd be able to separate the root systems unless I shook practically all the dirt off of them, but I worry that'd shock them too badly when transplanting.
Should I cut one of them off at soil level and try to re-root the stalk using water/rooting gel, so I can plant it in a different pot?
The third one is stunted, but it's still growing. Could I leave even that one in there, or should I just kill it? I doubt it's large enough to try getting it to sprout new roots from the stalk.
