I've hunted without them but I've found having the red-dot for taking shots while moving as little as possible, often in strange and or contorted position helps a great deal. If you didn't know, a good shot on a turkey is rather precise. I'd never use on on other types of birds, but this gun is for turkeys and turkeys only.
