If you have a line strung between two supports, with a load on the middle (i.e. a hammock), then the force applied to the supports approaches infinity as the slack in the line approaches horizontal. Since it's generally impractical to hang a hammock with an angle any slacker than 20 degrees or so unless you're hanging it from the ceiling, and since if you're moving around, you'll be applying force greater than your bodyweight (possibly much more than your bodyweight), you generally want your line to hold at least 800 pounds, preferably at least 1000. Also, paracord is nylon, and nylon stretches, which makes you wake up on the ground. Climbing accessory cord or webbing works fine.
