>>2345193i own many pairs of combat boots, but generally speaking the french double buckles are my favorite. they provide good ankle support without cutting off blood flow, are comfortable, keep my feet dry in adverse weather and when walking through long wet grass, and the lugs on the soles are distanced far enough from each other that they don't get gummed up with mud and rocks easily. the pebbled leather they're made out of does seem to incur cosmetic damage more easily than other leathers, and takes more polish make look good again after a long trip. without polish, my pair have a grayish white scorch mark look on the front, mostly from climbing over barbed wire fences and kicking rocks accidentally. i really wish there were some good repros of these other than the m43s, since i don't like rough out definitely wouldn't use flat soles anywhere.
i like jungle boots too, but finding a good pair these days is a real dice roll, even if you're buying them from a "reputable" company. the best pair of jungle i own are USGIs from the 80s - the rest were terrible bad in some way or another.
