I might be alone in this, but i have never felt the need to baton wood while camping. I always use a saw or hatchet for big stuff, and I pick the appropriate size limbs for each stage of fire making.
I do however strip and shave a ton of wood for the tinder and kindling stages so for that reason alone I'd need a decent knife to cut up bigger limbs and make chips out of smaller limbs.
But I dont see the need to abuse a knife with batoning, even if it could handle such abuse. Not worth the risk when I think I'll need it for other tasks.
