>>516225>>516257Let me clarify. If you put a knife that looks like a combat knife or zombie knife on your belt, and that knife is over sized, it presents a certain image to a significant portion of the population.
I once went backpacking on the AT with a ka-bar and I think it made the liberal new york/californian/whatevers nervous.
No I wasn't playing with it and I do not post conjecture based on hypothetical experience.
It depends where you are too of course but the AT and other POPULAR backpacking areas will often fairly well traveled trails and even clustered camp sights that people use. I feel more comfortable with a nice looking "gentlemanly" knife rather than some tacticool zombie shit or even a ka-bar.
I also have a blackbird sk-5 which is a 5" blade based loosely on the design by Ernest Kephart and which has several upgraded features. It's a nice knife but is the biggest I would carry or be able to find a use for. Honestly, my Benchmade presidio (folding drop point) paired with a light camp saw is plenty.
I do also carry a concealed firearm though so to each their own.
