Consider making a survival tin kit containing matches, small fire rod, snare wire, sewing kit, candle, tampons (for tinder), signaling mirror, whistle, non lubricated condoms. Keep it in your pocket at all times. You can use altoid tin for it, your mom probably likes them.
Also print top maps from Caltopo and start practicing landnav, chinks might shot down your fancy satelites.
